Could Oprah be Santa?

Guess who Santa is now! The other day I tuned into Oprah's show and her subject was "My Favorite Things." Then she started showing gifts, describing them, prices, and all. As she described each one, elves all dressed in green, came out and presented each person in the audience a gift like the one she described.

There were boxes of cosmetics, candy, cookies, desserts, some clothes, watches, cell phones, and small packs of champagne — and there were a lot more. I'll bet those people were hoarse from screaming their gratitude. How they got all those big packages to their cars will remain a mystery to me. I figure each one received $1,000 in gifts.

I had a wonderful surprise Friday. Matt Newhouse brought his lovely bride-to-be in to see me. She won my vote, and I'm sure they will have a very happy life together.

After my four month "vacation,"

I'm glad to be home. Just like Dorothy said in "The Wizard of Oz," there is no place like home. There are a lot of good lessons in that story. It tells you how important the heart is in more ways than one. Then courage is a big help when you find yourself in trouble. A brain comes in mighty handy when you need to figure something out. Of course, imagination can keep us entertained most any time. The movie is what made the story live as the original story isn't terribly exciting.

Speaking of courage — in a book I'm reading about the actor Jimmy Stewart, he showed great courage flying many missions over Germany during World War II. He wouldn't talk about it, just like most of our veterans. Movie stars aren't always all fluff.
