Counmty seeks bids for trailer, loader

Marion County Commission gave permission Monday to David Brazil, county sanitarian and transfer station manager, to obtain bids for a skid loader and a walking floor trailer.
The two purchases are in the 2004 transfer station budget.
The skid loader would replace an older loader that would then be used as a back-up.
Currently, the station has two walking floor trailers that can hold up to 20 tons of refuse. A third trailer, said Brazil, would allow additional storage.
Leroy Wetta, commissioner, asked Brazil how often the third trailer would be used.
"Once a week and holidays," said Brazil, "or if a tractor breaks down."
Wetta asked if a box trailer could be used instead of a high-tech trailer that would be used only 10 percent of the time.
Brazil said he would prefer the walking floor trailer because it would save time in the long run.
"We need to have a back-up trailer," said Brazil.
Approximate costs of the walking floor trailer is $45,000 and the box trailer is $10,000.
Wetta said he was concerned about purchasing a third trailer and then finding that one of the other older trailers needed to be replaced. He did not want to see the county buying a trailer every year to replace the old ones.
Brazil said he had the older trailers inspected. Approximately $6,500 would need to be spent on each trailer to repair and refurbish them.
Wind farm siting task force information was distributed to the commission.
Commission also reviewed a news article with information about the county's reuse room at the transfer station.
A five-minute executive session to discuss personnel was requested by Brazil.
The meeting reconvened with no decisions.
A 20-minute executive session with Steve Pigg and James Kaup via telephone conference was taken. Attorney/client privileges was the subject.
