County and EMS writes off bad debt accounts
Marion County Commission approved a write-off Monday of $4,924 for 13 unpaid accounts with the county's emergency medical services department.
Department director Darryl Thiesen was instructed to send the unpaid accounts to the state's set-off program that collects bad debt when individuals file and are entitled to an income tax return. Thiesen reported $1,081 recently was collected from the state program.
In other department business:
— Thiesen reported there were 86 ambulance runs during the month of March. Of those calls, Hillsboro responded 42 times, Marion 20, Peabody 14, Florence seven, and Tampa three.
There were 24 medical emergencies, 14 transfers, 11 standbys, nine no transport, six cardiac, five each motor vehicle accident and turn-around, and two other. Goessel first responders were activated nine times, Burns and Lincolnville once each. Marion rescue truck went on two runs.
— A workshop for EMS personnel will be presented April 29 to instruct personnel to rescue individuals from aircraft, AED training for teachers at USD #398, teen drivers' training at Marion High School, mock casualty scenario at Centre High School, and a defensive driving class.
— The commission approved the maintenance of windows at the annex building. Thiesen requested the improvements because the windows were loose and allowed hot and cold air to come indoors.
