County discusses new dump trucks
Marion County Commission discussed Monday the purchase of new county dump trucks.
Acting county road and bridge superintendent Jim Herzet presented a list of dump trucks and mileage of each of them.
There are seven trucks, ranging from a 1985 to a 2002, with mileage of 174,245 to 550,567.
A 1996 tandem axle truck has 405,500 and pulls a 1988 trailer with more than a million miles on it. Herzet said the trailer's floor needs to replaced or purchase a new trailer.
Herzet said he would like 2500 series International trucks. The approximate cost for each dump truck is $85,000-$90,000 with a bed.
After reviewing the department's budget, it was determined there was $1,055,000 cash available in the budget.
Herzet was instructed to check prices of purchasing trucks outright, and lease costs.
In other department business:
— A bid for two steel bridges was approved. Krause Welding, Hillsboro, was the only bidder for the projects.
The bid for two bridges was $83,650.
A 50-foot bridge will be replaced three miles south of Florence, and one-and-one-quarter mile west of U.S.-77 on 80th Road.
A 60-foot bridge will be replaced four miles west of Marion on 190th Road, one mile south on Old Mill, and one-quarter mile west on 180th.
