County elected officials receive pay increases

Marion County Commission approved pay increases Tuesday for some elected personnel.

Following a five-minute executive session with county clerk Carol Maggard, commissioner Dan Holub made a motion to give those elected officials who are not earning the average wage a pay increase that would bring them to that level. Commissioner Bob Hein seconded the motion and the motion passed, 3-0.

The pay increase will be based on the estimated average wage from nine counties of similar size and the cities of Hillsboro and Marion. The information was based on 2006 wages.

Those officials who make more than the average wage will not receive a pay increase.

The pay increase will be effective beginning Dec. 21, 2006, the beginning of the current pay period.

Efforts had been made in past years for non-elected county employees to be brought to 75 percent of the median or average wage. No pay increases are budgeted in the 2007 county budget and it was not stated from where the funds for these pay increases would be taken.

A complete story of Tuesday's commission meeting will be in next week's newspaper.
