County fire district receives grant

Lester Kaiser, fire chief of Marion County Fire District #5, Lincolnville, recently was notified that the district has been awarded a $60,015 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The grant will be utilized to purchase personal protective equipment including pants, coats, boots, helmets, gloves, and protective hoods.

It also will allow the department to replace aging self-contained air-packs with new updated models. These air-packs will have lightweight bottles, wider vision masks with voice amplification, and the ability to be connected together so users can "share air" to escape a building should the need arise.

Approximately $490 million of Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) will be distributed in phases this year to fire departments and emergency medical services organizations throughout the U.S. for equipment and training.
