County handles executive sessions, personnel issues
Personnel issues Monday were a large part of the Marion County Commission agenda with three executive sessions.
Marion County Clerk Carol Maggard requested and received a 10-minute executive session to discuss identifiable personnel issues.
The meeting reconvened with no decisions.
Jesse Brunner, of Tampa, requested and received a 10-minute executive session to discuss identifiable personnel.
Deanna Olsen, emergency medical services secretary, was present at the meeting but was not included in the executive session.
The meeting reconvened with no decisions. Commission will discuss Brunner's concerns with Daryl Thiesen, EMS director, at the March 8 meeting.
Dianna Carter-Frantz requested and received a 10-minute executive session for personnel issues. Maggard was included in the session.
When the meeting reconvened, Leroy Wetta, commission chairman, announced Carter-Frantz requested and received family medical leave. Wetta stated that time off for Carter-Frantz will be given accordingly.
In other business:
— Bruce Wells, the facilitator appointed by the commission to the economic development task force will report to the commission March 8.
The purpose of the task force is to write a job description for a county economic development position.
— Carter-Frantz announced valuation notices will be mailed next week. Dry crop properties increased per acre; some parcels increased up to 12 percent.
The values for agricultural land are set by the state, explained Carter-Frantz. The county is responsible for listing the use and soil types.
"Agricultural property owners need to contact the appraiser's office to make sure the use is correct," said Carter-Frantz.
Overall, residential property has increased one percent.
— David Brazil, zoning administrator, sanitarian, and transfer station manager, presented two bids to the commission for a walking floor trailer for the transfer station.
J and J Truck bid $43,760 for the trailer. The trailer from the Pennsylvania-based company is different from the trailers currently being used by the station.
Wilkins of Stockton gave a bid of $45,900 for a new trailer and a bid of $34,900 for a used trailer. The trailers are the same being used by the station.
"I would rather deal with something that doesn't require rewiring, etc.," said Brazil regarding a used trailer.
Commissioners asked Brazil to check into a warranty for the trailers from the Stockton company.
— Gerald Kelsey, road and bridge superintendent, and Jim Herzet, road supervisor, presented and the commission approved one fuel bid.
Cardie Oil Company presented a bid of $9,237 for 3,000 and 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel at $1.174 and $.938 per gallon respectively, and 2,500 gallons unleaded fuel at $1.32 per gallon.
— Sheriff Lee Becker and the commissioners discussed options for sewer repair at the county jail. Becker was instructed to obtain bids for repair of the sewer line.
— Commission will not meet March 29 but will meet March 31 for payday and agenda items.
The next commission meeting will be at 9 a.m. Monday at the county courthouse.
