County health, fitness program nets successes

A county employee health and fitness program has reached its first milestone — an employee has earned more than 2,000 points.

Jeannine Bateman, Marion County treasurer, is the first participant to obtain the status.

Participants document their daily activities that promote health and fitness. Points are obtained by eating healthy, exercising, wearing seat belts, having annual check-ups, and other healthy choices.

The program is called FOCUS '05 (Follow Our Challenge Until Successful), and is available to any Marion County employee. It is strictly a voluntary program and is employee funded.

"Currently, there are 10 participants," said Dana Wear, program coordinator. "There are others who are close to success, too."

Some participants join to lose weight and others want a healthier lifestyle.

Bateman received a FOCUS '05 T-shirt for her accomplishment.

Marion County Commission approved the program for two years at which time it will be reviewed.
