County hires attorney to assist with exotic animal code
Marion County Commission approved the hiring of an attorney to assist in establishing animal control codes.
David Brazil, zoning administrator, requested and received a 15-minute executive session with attorney James Kaup. The purpose of the session was attorney/client privilege to discuss exotic animals.
Following the session, the meeting reconvened with approval from the commissioners to hire Kaup to develop guidelines for an animal control code.
Kaup told the commission via telephone conference he will provide Brazil with regulation examples that adequately protect the public.
Kaup added that other counties have adopted similar regulations at a minimal cost to the counties.
Existing personnel would be utilized for the anticipated regulations.
The regulations are a result of the recent incidents involving exotic animals housed in Marion County. Other issues concerning domestic animals will be reviewed.
