County lake

We don't need another day like Sunday for a long time! That wind was awful. I didn't even want to go out of the house and I think everyone else thought the same thing as we weren't busy at all. If you would have tried to throw out a fishing line it would have come flying back in your face. I think all the fish were hiding at the bottom of the lake anyway. We sold several turkey permits last week, but I bet the Sunday hunters had a hard time finding any. The birds were probably hugging and hanging on to the trees to keep from being blown away. If they had their tails fanned out in that wind they would be in Nebraska by now!

Fishing is about the same. One day is good at the heated dock with several nice channel cat taken and some nice crappie, one-half to one-pounders, and the next day they don't catch anything, so it's hard to give a fishing report. We are getting more good days than bad ones now. Bank fishing is better since the water has warmed up (around 68 to 70 degrees). The crappie are getting close to spawning and being close to the shoreline. Channel cat continue to be the hottest fish right now, with several reporting catching their limits. Sponge bait, dough balls, liver, and worms are the best bait for them.

Chat and Dine is having a bake sale and garage sale from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 1 in the lake hall, to raise funds for the CCC Commemorative Statue Fund. You still have time to clean out your garage or attic and donate items for the sale. This is in conjunction with Marion's area wide garage sales, so make a day of it and come out to look and buy, and take some goodies home to eat.

We had 23 at our house for Easter dinner. After coloring eggs Saturday, we hunted them Sunday. As cool as it was everyone had on coats but they had fun anyway.

Our Walk Across Kansas team is still plugging along, or walking along. This week we finally achieved the 423 miles it takes to go across Kansas. Yeah! Those windy days are the fun ones. Walking with the wind you think, oh boy, this is going good, then you head into the wind and it seems like you take one step forward and two steps back. We look at it as getting a good workout. Marge and I thought we had the lake road looking pretty good (picking up the cans we saw while walking) until her husband burned the pasture and ditch off and now we can see all the bottles and cans we missed. See you walking around the lake.
