County Safe Kids is chapter of the year
Marion County chapter of Safe Kids Kansas recently was recognized as the local chapter of the year for the state of Kansas.
Sondra Mayfield, Marion, is the local chapter's coordinator.
The chapter received the award because it excelled in bringing together varied and diverse members of the community to actively participate in Safe Kids activities.
During the past year, the Marion County chapter implemented programs in multiple injury risk areas including child passenger safety, water safety, bike safety, and fire safety.
An example was a personal flotation device loaner program that was developed with Marion Municipal Pool.
Marion County is among 38 counties and cities with the Safe Kids Kansas program whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury.
