Couples' invitational held at country club

Sixty-six players participated Sunday in the 10th annual Couple's Invitational Golf Tournament at Marion Country Club.

Players came from Marion, Auburn, Derby, El Dorado, Emporia, Herington, Marysville, McPherson, Newton, Salina, Silver Lake, Topeka, and Wichita.

Taking first place in the championship flight were Kyle and Penny Hickman, Emporia, with a score of 74.

Medalists in the first flight were Phil and Myrna Taunton, Emporia, with a score of 77. First in the second flight went to Mike and Nancy Robinson, Newton, with a score of 84.

Special awards winners were: closest to the line on Hole No. 1, Rex Lee and Sherry Wynkoop, both of Wichita; closest to the pin on Hole No. 9, Morris Woelk, Topeka; and longest put, on Hole No. 6, Tim Young, Marion.

A social hour and steak fry followed the tournament.

Committee and board members helping with the tournament were Elora Robinson, Bob Navrat, Jerry and Lois Smith, Dick and Margie Schwartz, Harlow and Edith Warneke, Dave and Jackie Crofoot, Bob Robinson, Jami Williams, and Brad Wildin.

Ties were broken by a score card playoff starting with the first handicap hole.

First Flight

1. Phil and Myrna Taunton, Emporia, 77. 2. Jerry and Lois Smith, Marion, 78. 3. Harvey and Sharon Nelson, McPherson, 80. 4. Garry and Janice Winter, Wichita, 80.

SECOND Flight

1. Mike and Nancy Robinson, Newton, 84. 2. Roger and Pam Broughton, Topeka, 86. 3. Jack and Carolyn Bell, Wichita, 87. 4. Rex and Cignora Lee, Wichita, 89.
