CPA firm approves Marion audit report
All appears to be acceptable with the City of Marion 2001 audit report, according to the accounting firm of Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk and Lloyd.
Jan Nolde of SJHL presented the annual report Monday.
She said "nothing is seriously wrong, the city does a good job."
She noted minor statutory violations, which have been corrected.
The quarterly publication was not properly presented, she said, but it has been corrected.
County and city revenue sharing is now represented in the general fund, as required, Nolde said.
Statutory software is being used for bookkeeping purposes and all prior recommendations have been followed, she said.
Nine outstanding checks were found, more than two years old. They can be canceled and the money restored to the proper funds.
"The city is monitoring cash balances more carefully," Nolde said.
She made a study of unencumbered cash balances in the utility, refuse, sewer, water, general obligation and bond funds. She also presented some informative graphs.
Stacey Collett of Greeley Gas Co. was present to report a name change to Atmos Energy. "It's only a name change," Collett said, "Everything will remain the same." Atmos purchased Greeley in 1992.
Treasurer Linda Holub presented warrants in the amount of $169,363.59 which were approved, as was a transfer of $29,145.00.
Harvey Sanders, utility superintendent, said two outages Monday night were due to heat and trees. He said voting booths for Tuesday's election have been installed at the Lutheran and Baptist churches.
Marty Fredrickson, street superintendent, said they are busy cleaning sewer lines.
He said 131.58 tons of trash had been collected during July, which is "above average."
Librarian Janet Marler said many people have been visiting the new library, both from near and far. Also, many more books are being read. She said story time for youngsters had an average attendance of 25-30, which is double average. Marler recently attended quarterly and annual meetings for librarians.
Following an executive session, the commission voted to rescind a previous action to sell two lots in the retail park. The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Eloise Mueller. Also present were councilmen Larry McLain and Jim Crofoot.
