Cream of the crop
So many times we only hear negative comments about the youth in our community. This weekend we had a chance to see some of the best and brightest, the cream of the crop.
Those folks who attended the MHS production of "Fiddler on the Roof" were treated to an outstanding performance and a great night of entertainment. A few empty seats dotted the auditorium but the mostly-attentive audience gave a standing ovation at the final curtain call.
Students in the cast and crew and sponsors should be commended for their dedication and hard work. The play showcased a talented group of performers who spent countless hours rehearsing, and crew members who spent months designing sets and costumes, in addition to their regular school work and extracurricular activities.
Perhaps we should take a few lessons from these kids. While they went to school, activities, work, and play practice, the majority of us sat at home watching TV or went to Wichita because there was "nothing to do" in Marion. When their hard work culminated in a three-hour performance Friday and Saturday nights, the least we could have done was attend, appreciate their efforts, and not visit during the performances.
