CROP Walk is Oct. 5 at county lake
The annual Marion County CROP Walk will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 5, starting at Marion County Lake hall.
Volunteers are needed not walk and to donate funds toward the event. People support walkers by contributing.
Chairman Donna Kreutziger said it is an opportunity to support a good cause and enjoy a scenic walk around Marion County Park and Lake.
Funds go toward support of Church World Service ministry at the grassroots level, she said.
There are hunger fighting agencies in more than 80 countries, she continued.
Contributors may designate their own, or favorite, denominational relief agency to receive their gifts.
Kreutziger said 25 percent of local funds raised are returned to help families in Marion County who are in need, those who use the Marion County Emergency Food Bank.
In order to raise necessary funds for the local food bank, Kreutizer pointed out that "many walkers collecting a whole lot of money is needed."
She said in order to cover 100 families it would take $2,500 in donations (with 25 percent coming back). That means $11,000 would need to be donated, which would take 110 walkers each collecting $100.
Churches from Marion and Hillsboro are working together on the project and will be walking together. They anticipate 14 churches being involved, each church would need to have 7.85 walkers to make the total of 110 needed (at $100 each).
"Of course, the more walkers we have, the more money can be collected making more aid to families in need," she said.
