Cynthia Slough
Cynthia Carol Slough, 41, died March 3, 2004, at her home in Bend, Ore.
The daughter of Judy (Coons) and Harry Elliott, she was born May 11, 1962, in Sacramento, Calif.
She attended Grants Pass, Ore., public schools through high school, the University of Oregon, Willamette University, and Southern Oregon State University.
She served in the U.S. Navy from 1990-1995. During that time she attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif., where she received high honors in her Russian language studies.
On Dec. 31, 1993, she married Kenneth Slough.
While serving in the Navy, Cindy was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. From 1997-1999 she continued using her Russian language skills for the U.S. Defense Attaché Office at the American Embassy in Moscow, Russia.
After two years overseas they returned to the United States, residing in Silver Spring, Md., Long Beach, Calif., Redmond, Ore., and finally making their home in Bend, Ore. While living in Long Beach she was employed at Sea Launch as a security specialist. While in Redmond and Bend she worked for Deschutes County Juvenile Justice as an accounting clerk.
In addition to travel for the Navy, Cindy's love of travel took her to Greece, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, and across the United States. Cindy loved to learn and was an avid reader all her life. She enjoyed gardening and loved brightly colored flowers.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harry L. Elliott.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; two stepchildren, Alyxandria and Roger; her sister, Sheryl Elliott of Winston, Ore.; her brother, John Elliott of Snohomish, Wash.; and her mother and stepfather, Judy and Larry Gourley, Rogue River, Ore.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. March 13 at Aspen Hall, Shevlin Park, Bend, Ore.
A memorial fund was established with Central Oregon Home Health and Hospice, Bend, Ore.
