Cyril Reznicek

Cyril Emanuel Reznicek, 90, retired Ottawa Herald circulation manager, died Nov. 20, 2003, at St. Luke Living Center, Marion.

Cyril Reznicek was born July 23, 1913, at Irving, the son of Thomas and Antonie (Pallas) Reznicek. Cyril was the eighth of 12 children, having six brothers and five sisters.

He attended schools in Irving and Lost Springs, graduating from Lost Springs High School in 1931.

He married Elisabeth (Betty) Martin Redford on Aug. 6, 1952, at St. Mary's Cathedral, Wichita. She died Feb. 1, 1988.

He worked on the family farm until back injuries prevented him from continuing. In 1957, he moved the family to Marion where he worked as a parts man for Marion Equipment.

With partner Albert Stroda, he designed and constructed truck beds as Reznicek Sales and Service.

In 1963, he and his family moved to Ottawa where he worked as a maintenance supervisor at Ottawa University. He was the circulation manager at the Ottawa Herald, retiring in 1979.

He moved to Marion in 1994, to be closer to his daughters. He was a resident of St. Luke Living Center.

He was active in the Knights of Columbus for many years in Tampa, Pilsen, and Ottawa.

A devoted husband, father, inventor, and entrepreneur, he delighted in his three daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He enjoyed playing his harmonica, listening to polka and Big Band music.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters, Christine Svoboda, Margy Meysing, and Emma Morden; and five brothers, Frank Reznicek, Thomas Reznicek, Joseph Reznicek, Antone Reznicek, and John C. Reznicek.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jo and Mark Karleskint of Olathe, Judy and Lou Wegerer and Susan Cooper, all of Marion; five grandchildren, Daniel Karleskint of Olathe, Jason Karleskint of Claremont, N.H., Christina Cooper and Allison Wegerer of Marion, and Andrea Wegerer of Manhattan; two great-grandchildren, Courtney Karleskint of Olathe and Dylan Cooper of Marion; two sisters, Anne Steiner of Marion and Rose Gleason of Wichita; and a brother, Paul Reznicek of Littleton, Colo.

The rosary was recited Monday evening at Holy Family Parish, Marion.

Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Parish, Pilsen, with the Rev. Stephen Gronert officiating.

Mary Griffith was the soloist with Charlene Svitak as organist, and Alex Stuchlik on the accordion.

Casket bearers were Robert Reznicek, Gene Vinduska, Ralph Steiner, Steven Svoboda, Terry Svoboda, and Ken Reznicek. Honorary casket bearers were Paul Meysing, Bernard Meysing, Edmund Reznicek, Frank Steiner, Lawrence Svoboda, and Gerald Svoboda.

Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa with the Rev. Tod Ziegler officiating.

Memorials contributions may be made to the St. Luke Living Center, the Father Emil Kapaun Memorial, or Sacred Heart Catholic School.
