Dean Thompson
Dean William Thompson, 70, died Dec. 30, 2002, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado.
Born May 4, 1932, in Wonsevu, he was the son of the late William James and Ruth (Nicholsen) Thompson. He attended grade school in Wonsevu but graduated from Cedar Point High School in 1949.
He was married to Joan Bartlett on June 13, 1954, at Madison. One son was born to the couple.
Thompson served in the United States Army Occupation Forces in Germany from 1955 to 1957. He returned to the Cedar Point area and was a well known farmer/rancher and later a livestock order buyer.
He was a member and Past Master of Advance Lodge #114 at Florence, VFW Post #6958 in Marion, and the Wonsevu Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife Joan of Cedar Point; son Wayne and wife Carol of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; two sisters, Beth Wright and Shirley Sprague, both of Eureka; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Jan. 3 at Zeiner Funeral Home in Florence. Burial was at the Cedar Point Cemetery.
Music was provided by Cheryl Doty as vocalist, singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond The Sunset" with Dolly Soyez as the organist.
Casket bearers were Bruce Fetrow, John Harbison, William, Frank, John, and Larry Soyez. The Rev. Steve Hysom and the Rev. Larry Timm officiated.
Military honors were presented by McConnell Air Force Base, and the Masonic Rites by Advance Lodge #114 of Florence.
Memorials have been established with Cedar Point Community Church and the Florence Ambulance Service.
