REC basketball every Saturday brings hundreds of people from surrounding counties to Marion. These people ultimately eat at local restaurants, shop at local shops, and fill up with gas at local gas stations. All this provides additional sales tax revenue to Marion.

They are in constant need of volunteers. Contact Margo Yates, 382-3425 or e-mail chinga@eaglecom.net for additional information.

The program is in its fourth year.

There is a junior varsity high school wrestling tournament scheduled for Jan. 27 at Marion.

This will bring many people to the community who need to eat, fill up with fuel, and shop. Marion merchants should plan accordingly and welcome the additional business.

Marion Advancement Campaign (MAC) is alive and well. The local foundation was formed to work for the betterment of Marion through facilities and programs not offered by government or private business. It gives individuals and groups who wish to give back to the community an option to make tax deductible donations that stay in Marion.

The group's original project was a community center/movie theater. Much progress was made. Land was obtained and designs were drawn, but the financial support necessary for the theater portion of the project did not materialize.

In fact, potential large donors expressed they weren't interested in contributing to the project with the theater included.

With that in mind, the MAC board has reworked and scaled back the project. The new plan calls for a large multi-purpose community center with full kitchen facilities.

The design is such that if support for a theater is found in the future, it can be added to the center, making dual use of plumbing and many other features.

Contact has been made with other local groups needing space to have meetings and activities. Plans call for building the facility on donated land north of the baseball/softball complex.

This can happen. One large donor could put the project over the top. Numerous naming opportunities are available. For more information, call 382-2115.
