Dinner will benefit Matt Warta

A spaghetti dinner to benefit Matt Warta will be served from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. March 3 at the Lincolnville Community Building.

The son of Jean and Rocky Warta of Herington, Matt is a 1999 graduate of Centre High School.

He was diagnosed with leukemia and has been in Kansas City undergoing treatment since mid-October. He underwent a bone marrow transplant Oct. 31.

Matt has passed his 100 day milestone and is now leukemia free and the bone marrow has grafted 100 percent.

He must remain in Kansas City for close monitoring. He is still seeing his doctor daily and will have to remain there until his blood count is satisfactory.

A result of the surgery is a compromised immune system, so Matt has to limit his contact with others. He is able to go out some but cannot be around large crowds of people. One of his parents has been staying with Matt since he has been in Kansas City.

The benefit is being sponsored by AAL Branches #1439, Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona and Hebron Lutheran Church Burdick, #755 St. John's, Lincolnville, and #6683 Our Redeemer, Herington. AAL will contribute supplementary funds.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes from Centre High School and friends of Matt also are helping.

Matt would appreciate hearing from friends and schoolmates. He can be reached at:
