Doesn't add up
Something's got to give! People and politicians must learn that more government spending means higher taxes. There is no such thing as a government "benefit." It comes from us, the people, in the form of higher taxes. Many are beginning to awaken to the fact that government is growing too fast and has become too big. That's true at all levels, city, county, school, state and federal. A retired and respected Marion teacher said the solution is so simple, "if we'd just cut down on spending." There isn't a program or position in government that couldn't become more efficient. But it isn't happening. And the public doesn't give a damn. When Marion County was offered a big cash bonanza and an answer to economic problems, Marion voters rejected it for what will result in much higher taxes and no increased benefits.
