Donations reach $26,000 for playground equipment years ago
Kiwanis Club issues challenge
Marion Kiwanis Club is challenging the Marion community to support the fund-raising efforts for new playground equipment.
The organization will donate $5,000 when $35,000 or more is collected toward the $40,000 goal. The goal must be met before Nov. 30.
Members of the community participated in a fall festival Saturday at Central Park as part of a fund-raiser for the project. Becky Makovec of the Marion Park Improvement Committee reported that approximately $4,000 was made during the afternoon's events of games and activities.
The highlight of the afternoon was when two Garth Brooks tickets were given away. Lori McLinden of rural Marion was the lucky winner.
Seacat Do-it-Best donated $9,000, which brings the total to $26,000 pledged and collected thus far.
Pumpkin carvers are asked to take pictures of their masterpieces to be displayed at Marion city offices where people will have a chance to vote on their favorites by making donations.
An auction is planned to begin at 6 p.m. Nov. 26 at the city-owned building at the industrial park. Residents may bring donated items for the auction to the city office.
