Driver abandons vehicle on boat ramp, dog drowns
Suspects were charged with exhibition of acceleration and leaving the scene of an accident following an incident at Marion Reservoir. The suspects were backing down a boat ramp at 10:48 p.m. May 26, and attempting to squeal their tires while pulling out when the vehicle went in the lake. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Josh Whitwell and a park ranger asked if the suspects needed assistance and the suspects denied needing any help. After an hour, the suspects called in to dispatch to report the accident. A dog was left inside the vehicle and drowned in the incident.
Two individuals filed separate reports with Marion County Sheriff regarding a domestic battery incident that occurred May 14 on Falcon Road, Goessel. The incident occurred when the couple had an argument, pushed and hit each other. One suspect put the other suspect in a head lock. The second suspect bit the first suspect's arm and left the premises, reported Deputy Jim Philpott.
Belinda Robinson, 104 N. Ohio, Burns, reported someone was a guest in her home and discovered $220 was taken from her purse. She reported the incident to Deputy Philpott at 7:20 p.m. June 4. The night she was taking the guest to Wichita to meet a bus, the money was missing. She asked the houseguest to help her find the money but he refused.
Dalbert Hoppes, 74, Galva, reported to lake patrolman Dan Kinning that he lost or misplaced his wallet June 9 at Marion Reservoir. Unknown person(s) found the wallet, removed $200 cash and four credit cards, and threw the wallet in the lake.
At 7:30 p.m. June 14, a suspect struck a victim in the head at a residence on Zebulon Road, Marion. According to Sheriff Lee Becker, when the victim left the residence, the suspect drove after her and demanded she get in his truck. When the victim refused, the suspect shoved her to the road and took her purse. The victim had a bruise on her upper left arm, scrapes, and abrasions from rocks on the road.
Peabody man arrested for disorderly conduct
Peabody Police Chief Jeff Pohlman reported the past week was fairly uneventful.
Jeff Madsen was arrested Saturday evening at Second and Vine for disorderly conduct and assault on a police officer.
He was found drunk on the sidewalk after citizens in the area became alarmed at his inability to function properly and contacted authorities.
Madsen was booked into Marion County Jail on the above charges.
Peabody man
in U.S.-50 collision
A Peabody man was involved in a two-vehicle collision June 14 on U.S.-50 in Harvey County.
According to Kansas Highway Patrol, Daryl L. James, 37, Peabody, was driving eastbound on U.S.-50 in a 1996 Ford F-150 pickup at 3:25 p.m. when a 1999 Nissan Altima, driven by Jose A. Gonzalez, 33, Emporia, illegally passed a vehicle on the right shoulder behind James. When Gonzalez moved to the driving lane, he struck the rear of James' truck.
James was transported to Newton Medical Center with a possible injury. Gonzalez was not injured.
