Drivers to appear Tuesday in court

Two truck drivers will make their initial appearances in court Tuesday.

J.B. Miser, 62, Emporia, and Michael W. Hardwick, 50, El Paso, Texas, recently were charged with vehicular homicide as a result of two separate accidents on U.S.-50 in 2004.

The first accident occurred May 10 when Miser was the driver of a semi tractor-trailer and failed to stop for road construction. Two Marion women died in the crash.

Less than two months later on June 28, two men from Mexico and Canada were killed when a semi driven by Hardwick also failed to stop in a work zone and rear-ended the pickup truck in which the two men were riding.

A 10:30 a.m. hearing will be held Tuesday in Marion County District Court.

Charges are pending regarding a third accident that occurred June 29, 2004, when a semi driver failed to stop in a construction zone that resulted in the deaths of five people.
