Ed Patry
Ed Patry was born Sept. 12, 1908, at Colwich, the son of John and Mary (Eberle) Patry and the oldest of three children.
The family moved to rural Peabody when Ed was nine. He attended Ridge country school. One of his teachers was his cousin, Letha Eberle.
On Feb. 14, 1939, Ed married Mary Wegerer. Their first home was on a farm southwest of Marion. In 1950, Ed, Mary, and the family moved to a farm south of Hillsboro where they resided until 1964 when they moved to a place farther south. He retired from farming in 1975 and moved to Hillsboro.
Ed and Mary enjoyed activities at the Senior Center and watching local softball games while visiting with friends.
Two of the highlights of Ed's life was their 50th wedding anniversary which was a pig roast hosted by their children. He also celebrated his 90th birthday in Hillsboro at the Boy Scout building, attended by many relatives and friends.
In 1993 Mary died suddenly and Ed continued to live in Hillsboro until 1994 when he moved to Wichita to be closer to his two daughters. In July 1997 Ed moved to Prairie Homestead.
In May he suffered several mild strokes. He spent five weeks in the hospital. On June 20 he went back to Prairie Homestead and died there June 21.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Albert.
He is survived by eight children, James Patry of Wilson, Lawrence Patry of Hutchinson, Margaret Barkman of Winton, Calif., Cecelia Sanchez of Salina, Betty Plante and Barbara Meirowsky, both of Wichita, Marian Lindshield of Lindsborg, and Annette Cutcher of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a sister, Pauline Wegerer of Marion; 25 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
The Rosary was recited Thursday evening at St. Mark's Church of Holy Family Parish with George Waner the leader.
Mass was Friday morning at the church with Father Paul Oborny as celebrant. James Patry was lector.
Casket bearers were John Sanchez, Neal Patry, Mike Meirowsky, Nathan Lindshield, Sean Plante, and Shad Plante. Thomas Patry, Nikki Nelson, and Daniel Goentzel were Mass servers.
Honorary bearers were Tim Sanchez, Terry Patry, Brian Lindshield, Scott Plante, Jeff Patry, Chris Barkman, Clint Barkman, Casey Barkman, Joshua Cutcher, Jeremy Cutcher, and John Meirowsky.
Burial was in Marion Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established at Prairie Homestead in Wichita.
