Edith Smith
Edith Mae (Keazer) Smith, 93, was born Aug. 14, 1909, in Marion, the daughter of George and Rosa (Kerns) Keazer.
Edith graduated from Marion High School with the class of 1929.
She was employed as assistant manager for the J.C. Penney store in Marion prior to marrying Arlie G. Smith on Sept. 15, 1934. After living on the east coast for many years they moved to Topeka.
Edith devoted her time to maintaining a home for her family. She was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church at Topeka. She died July 20, 2003, at Lexington Park Nursing Facility in Topeka.
During her lifetime she gave a great deal of her time to community service, being involved with 4-H, United Way (Red Feather Community Chest), Speigletown Fire Company Auxiliary, and Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary of Troy, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Paul, George, Robert, Morton, and infant Howard; two sisters, Irene Hoover and Ruth Dohner.
She is survived by her husband, Arlie, of Topeka; a son, Donald S. Smith of Surprise, Ariz.; a daughter, Marilyn Ives of Leesburg, Fla.; a brother, Harold Keazer of Marion; a sister, Lois Patton of Topeka; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial contribution in her name is suggested for Eastmoor United Methodist Church at Marion.
A graveside service was held Wednesday (today) at Marion Cemetery with the Rev. John Goering officiating.
