Edward Urbanek
Edward Urbanek, 94, Pilsen, died Dec. 11, 2002, at Hillsboro where he had been a resident of Hillsboro Community Medical Center long term care unit since 1991.
Born Oct. 12, 1908, at Pilsen, he was the son of Ignac and Mary (Shramek) Urbanek.
He was a farmer in the Pilsen community, especially interested in machinery, trucks, and reading to keep informed on political events.
Ed enjoyed visiting with people and sharing his stories. He liked to discuss local history and his experience.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Rose. He is survived by a sister Eleanor Urbanek of Hillsboro and cousins.
Services were held Tuesday, with the rosary being recited at 9:30 a.m. and the Requiem Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with burial in the Pilsen Cemetery. Father Steve Gronert and Father Paul Oborny officiated.
Casket bearers were Gail Makovec, Mark Urbanek, Ken Vinduska, Martin Kroupa, Ron Makovec, and Robert Neuwirth. The church choir, accompanied by Charlene Svitak, provided the music. Memorials may be made to the Chaplain Kapaun memorial or Salem Home.
