Edwin Kandt
Edwin F. Kandt, 74, lifelong resident of Herington, died May 3, 2002, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson.
He was born Dec. 4, 1927, on a farm west of Herington, the son of Paul F. and Marie "Mary" (Brunner) Kandt.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Donahue Funeral Home Chapel, Herington, with the Rev. Tim Kersten officiating.
Burial was at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Edwin Kandt was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lyons Creek, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a farmer, logged walnut trees, and hauled hay for Fort Riley. He also operated a rock crusher for the local rock quarry.
He lived in the Herington area all his life until ill health forced him to move to a care home in Abilene, then the Infinia Care Home of McPherson.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Kandt; sister, Ada Mae Hawkinson; and his parents.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Kay Kandt and sister Rose Chartier, all of Herington.
A memorial has been established with St. John's Lutheran Church of Lyons Creek.
