El Dorado police chase ends in Marion County

Marion County Sheriff's officers took part in a chase and capture of two juveniles that began in Butler County in the early-morning hours of Aug. 27.

Sheriff Lee Becker said that at 12:25 a.m., Butler County Communication advised all area law enforcement agencies that El Dorado police were chasing a vehicle that was northbound on U.S. 77.

Fourteen minutes later, Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Vineski intercepted the vehicle about four miles south of Florence. The vehicle ran into the east ditch and through a fence. The two suspects jumped out of the truck, which was reported stolen, and fled on foot into the pasture.

At 12:40 a.m., Sgt. Jeff Soyez of the Marion County Sheriff's Department arrived with Marion County's K9 unit and thermal imaging device. Becker, along with the Butler County Sheriff and police from El Dorado and Peabody, was at the scene.

The thermal imager was used to locate the suspects. Both were taken into custody at 1:23 a.m.

Officers remained on the scene until the fence had been repaired. The suspects were released to Butler County authorities.
