Emma Danitschek

Emma M. Danitschek, 86, former resident of Herington, died Sept. 4, 2003, at the Wheat State Manor Care Home in Whitewater.

She was born July 6, 1917, in Ramona, the daughter of Henry E. and Emma D. (Riech) Schubert.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, with the Rev. Jeffery Crane officiating and assisted by the Rev. Alix Pridgen and the Rev. Robert Hackler. Committal followed at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Ramona.

Emma was a homemaker. She also helped in the family business, Danitschek Appliance and Floor Covering, in Herington for many years. She was a bookkeeper for the Rodeo Credit Union in Arkansas City prior to moving back to Herington.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, and active in the Ladies' Aid and Women's Missionary Circle.

She graduated from Ramona High School as salutatorian with the class of 1935.

Emma married Carl L. Danitschek Aug. 4, 1935, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ramona. He died June 28, 1999. She also was preceded in death by six brothers, Martin, Emil "Bill", Oswald, Herman, Dr. Walter, and Gustav; two sisters, Louise Klose and Martha Schubert; and her parents.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. Carl N. Danitschek and wife LaVonne of Waynesville, N.C., and Gene Danitschek and wife Paula of Wichita; daughter Alice Schultz and husband Gordon of Whitewater; sister, Alma Beckel of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
