Enos pitches first no-hitter in MHS history
Marion High School pitcher Mitch Enos threw a no-hitter Friday against Wichita Independent. Marion won the game 4 to 1.
"This is the first no-hitter in Marion High School history," said Coach Sean Spoonts. "A no-hitter at this level is a great feat. We beat a very good pitcher."
Independent had 22 at bats in the game. Enos had 11 strikeouts.
Steven Shiplet, Jimmy Shipman, Tyler Richmond, and Enos each scored a run. Others with hits were Robert Verbic, Jason Matz, and Clayton Chamberland.
The Warriors committed three errors in the game. Independent had four.
Marion lost the second game 16 to 6 in eight innings.
Tied at the end of the seventh, Marion lost a chance at the second win when Independent scored 10 runs.
Marion had five errors to Independent's one.
Marion finished with 10 hits, two each by Matz, Richmond, and Shiplet, and one each by Enos, Tyler Smith, Verbic, and Shipman.
Matz took the loss, pitching two-thirds of an inning. Shipman pitched three and a third, Verbic one, and Enos two.
The Warriors have one win and four losses.
