Erin Slattery joins Silver Key
Erin Slattery, Marion, is one of only 36 Kansas State University students selected for Silver Key, the sophomore honorary, for the 2002-03 school year.
First year students who display high academic performance and a commitment to community service are considered for membership.
She is majoring in pre-journalism and mass communications. She is the daughter of Mike and Terry Slattery of Marion.
Silver Key members assist with K-State's All-University Open House and the Kansas Academic Decathlon.
Off campus, members conduct community service projects at least once a month, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters, food drives for Flint Hills Breadbasket, and Adopt-A-Highway along a portion of U.S.-24.
Silver Key members also sleep one night in front of the student union to raise funds and awareness of the homeless.
Officials say many students who become leaders at K-State start in Silver Key.
