Etta Richmond
Etta Sophia Lena Richmond, 94, died May 11, 2002, at Marion.
She was born Jan. 9, 1908 in the Youngtown community, the daughter of the late Charlie and Anna (Bredemeier) Druse.
She grew up in the community and attended school there.
On June 4, 1934, she was married to Edward Richmond at Marion. The couple had four children, Roger, Ray, Bonnie, and Judy.
They farmed and raised turkeys.
She was noted for her ability to play the piano for dances and cake walks. She also enjoyed playing cards, baking bread, and teaching her grandchildren to drive.
For many years she worked as a nurse aide at Cedar Rest Home, Cedar Rest, and St. Luke Hospital.
Her husband, Edward, died in September 1962. Others who preceded her in death included brothers Martin, Eddie, Charles R. "Slim" and Elmer Druse; sister, Clara Olsen; two stepgrandchildren; and daughter-in-law Jimmie Modene Richmond.
She died Saturday at Marion Manor where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Survivors include son Roger and his wife, Betty, of Marion and son Ray of Marion; daughters Bonnie Stage and husband Jerry of Olathe, and Judy Grentz of McPherson; six grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; six great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday morning at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Jim Bridges officiating. Burial was in Marion Cemetery.
Greg Carlson was vocalist and Shirley Bowers the organist.
