Evan Wendt

Evan L. Wendt, 81, died July 31, 2004, at Lutheran Care Home, Herington.

Born Jan. 22, 1923, at Woodbine, he was the son of Theodore and Irene (Traskowsky) Wendt.

He married Ida Mae Graves Jan. 22, 1953.

Wendt served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a helicopter mechanic at Ft. Riley for more than 30 years.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steve Wendt; a sister, Harriett Poskey; and a brother, Glen Wendt.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae of Herington; a son, Donald of Salina; his daughter Jacqueline Sjodahl of Herington; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were to be conducted today at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington. The Rev. Alix Pridgen will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
