The democratic process has begun. Thirteen candidates have filed for four positions on the city's governing board. That is an incredible fete!
How many times in the past have there been one or maybe two candidates per position for public offices? Marion voters have 13 candidates with varying backgrounds and areas of expertise.
But the question remains — how many of us will get out there and vote?
Constituents asked Marion City Commission to consider expanding the board from three to five members. They did it. Fellow residents were encouraged to file for office. They did. Now it's our turn as citizens to show up at the polls Feb. 28 and April 4, and vote.
Absentee ballots are available for the Feb. 28 election at the county clerk's office for those who may be out-of-town or busy that Tuesday. There is no excuse not to vote!
Not registered? Get in the clerk's office and get registered. It's too late to register and vote in the primary but not for the general election on April 4.
The city commission and candidates have done their part so let's do ours.
