Family festival begins Friday
The 2006 Hillsboro Family Festival will begin Friday evening with a mixer at Memorial Park.
Musical entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m.
During the evening, barbecue beef sandwiches, beans, chips, and soda pop will be available for button-wearers at no additional cost.
Saturday's events begin with a fly-in at 7 a.m. at Alfred Schroeder Field. Other events include a remote control air show demonstration, 5k run and one-mile walk/run, and a three-man scramble at the golf course.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. a German/Low German Festival will be held at the historic church at Tabor College. Tours of the Peter Paul Loewen House and Friesen Mill will be given. A German sausage sandwich meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A classic car show sponsored by Route 56 Classic Cruisers will be held beginning with registration at 8 a.m. in Memorial Park on the circle drive.
A parade will be at 4 p.m. going north to south on Main Street and turning west at D Street to fairgrounds.
A tour of Hillsboro High School will be held at 4:30 p.m. for residents and alumni. An all-school reunion will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Hillsboro High School.
A demolition derby will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the fairgrounds arena.
On Memorial Day, the James William Miesse American Legion Post #22 of Hillsboro will provide a Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park Circle.
The Hillsboro Family Aquatic Center will open for business at 11:30 a.m., located near D and Date streets.
Buttons for the festival are $5 each and can be purchased at Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and the day of the festival.
The button will provide entry to the wearer for all events except the all-school reunion and demolition derby.
