Farm Bureauu to provide carbon credits information
Kansas Farm Bureau will host a series of informational meetings across Kansas to introduce a new and innovative method for farmers and landowners to take advantage of carbon credits.
Steve Swaffer, director of natural resources with Kansas Farm Bureau, will provide information on ways farmers and ranchers can earn income from no-till/strip-till crop production, new grass plantings, and rangeland management. KFB is partnering with AgraGate Climate Credits Corporation of West Des Moines, Iowa.
According to Swaffer, all Kansas producers are eligible for no-till and grass planting options, and 78 counties, including Marion County, are eligible for the rangeland management option.
Also there are programs for forestry and agriculture methane.
The meetings are open to any farm operators or landowners interested in learning more about this new market. Marion Reservoir WRAPS and Marion County Farm Bureau will host one of the information meetings at 10 a.m. Feb. 11, in the basement of Marion City Building, 203 N. Third, Marion. The carbon credit informational meeting is co-sponsored by Flint Hills RC&D Council.
Other meeting times, dates, and locations are 3 p.m. Feb. 11, courthouse meeting room at Dickinson County Courthouse basement, 109 E. First, Abilene, and 3:30 p.m. Feb. 26, Lyon County Extension Office, 2623 W. U.S.-50, Emporia.
