Festival 'free of problems'
Chingawassa Days did not result in any problems for the Marion Police Department, Chief David Mayfield told commissioners Monday at their regular weekly meeting.
Mayfield said four officers were in the park for both Friday and Saturday night events, and at various times during the day.
"We didn't have any problems," he said. One youth was ticketed for possession of tobacco products by a minor, and a vendor was found to be offering switchblades for sale; they were removed at the officer's request.
Chingawassa Days chairman Susan Cooper said the committee has occasionally had trouble with vendors selling inappropriate items. Since committee members wear bright shirts for easy identification, vendors can slip these items under cover anytime they see a festival official approach, she said.
Officers drove 649 miles on patrol during the week. They performed housewatch checks each day.
