FFA members recognized at banquet
Marion/Florence FFA Chapter hosted the parent/member/employer banquet Thursday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
Members were recognized for activities during the year and numerous awards were presented.
Alan Vogel was named Chapter Star Farmer and Allison Wegerer was awarded the Chapter Star in Agriculture Placement award.
Leann Thomas was recognized as the Star Greenhand in Production. Adam Depler was named Star Greenhand in Agribusiness.
Chapter proficiency awards went to: Allison Wegerer, agriculture sales placement, agriculture service placement. Charlie Kenney, agriculture mechanics repair and maintenance placement. Alan Vogel, grain crop production entrepreneurship. Leann Thomas, equine science proficiency and beef production entrepreneurship. Justin Widell, beef production placement.
Sarah Regier, diversified crop production placement, fiber and/or oil crop production placement, diversified livestock production placement and entrepreneurship, forage production placement, and swine entrepreneurship and placement. Molly Holub, small animal production and care. Adam Depler, forest management entrepreneurship and turf and landscape management entrepreneurship.
Tomi McLinden was presented the upperclassman record-keeping award.
Chapter sweepstakes award winners were Sarah Regier, first; Molly Holub, second; and Becky Tharp, third.
Robyn Kukuk was named Star Chapter Greenhand. Stephanie Jensen received the Star Chapter in Agriculture Placement award. David Tharp was named Star Chapter Farmer and Star in Agribusiness.
The chapter presented honorary chapter FFA degrees to Don Hett, Pat Nystrom, and Steve Wear. The degree is the highest award the chapter can bestow on a community member. Recipients are recognized for assisting the chapter in activities throughout the year.
Appreciation certificates were presented to Straub International, Deer Trail Implement Inc., Carlsons' IGA, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Suffield's Hardware, Animal Health Center, and Gambino's Pizza for their assistance to the chapter during the year.
Current state FFA sentinel Craig Pringle was the featured speaker. A slide show gave the year's highlights.
New officers were elected for the 2003-04 year. They are Becky Tharp, president; Sarah Regier, vice president; Robyn Kukuk, secretary; Leann Thomas, reporter; Molly Holub, treasurer; and Charley Kenney, sentinel.
More than 100 members and guests enjoyed a meal of chicken-fried steak, baked potatoes, corn, rolls, salad, and cake.
