FFA team takes fourth in meats contest
Marion-Florence FFA Chapter placed fourth Saturday in the A-team division of the South Central District FFA Meats Evaluation career development event.
Members of the team included Clayton Garnica, Danielle Cope, Hank Collett, and Tacy Taylor.
A Marion team also competed in the freshman division, which placed fourth as well.
Members of the freshman team were Kevin Billbe, Austin Percell, and Brittany Bailey.
Billbe placed fifth in the individual competition of the freshman division.
Participants were required to identify 30 retail cuts from lamb, beef, and pork. They had to place two retail cuts classes, one hog carcass class, and a class of beef carcasses. They also were required to assign a quality grade and yield grade to 10 different beef carcasses.
The event was hosted by the Winfield FFA chapter and Creekstone Foods of Arkansas City.
