Fire destroys storage buildings, damages houses in Lincolnville

Firefighters battled a blaze Wednesday afternoon at Lincolnville which destroyed a garage and two vehicles at 411 Lombard. It also consumed a small storage shed behind the neighboring house at 415 Lombard.

The fire spread to the southwest corner of the attached garage, and smoke spread throughout the attic of the house, which is owned by William Turner. No one was home at the time.

Robert and Daisy Young live at 411 Lombard. Daisy said she saw fire in the garage and called 911. She and her husband have five children who are home-schooled. She said they were in the house studying when the fire was discovered. The northwest corner of their home received minor damage from the fire.

The state fire marshal is conducting an ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire.

According to Lincolnville fire chief Lester Kaiser, Schilling Construction, which has a plant on the outskirts of town, provided a load of water. Agri-Producers, Inc., also had tankers loaded.

Marion County Fire District #5 received assistance from fire departments at Marion, Lost Springs, Ramona, and Herington. Tampa ambulance also responded.

"We had a good response," Kaiser said. "We saved two houses and maybe more. Our training is paying off."
