Fireworks show is Sunday night at county lake

The fireworks show for Labor Day is on again, THANKS to DuWayne Suffield. A big thanks to him and all the merchants and people who donated for the cause. Be sure to tell the supporting merchants thanks when you go into their stores.
We have a can in the office to take donations for next year. All the money will go to the county into an account for next year — so be sure to stop by and give your donation.
Well, wish I could write about how cool and refreshing it's been lately but, as you know, it hasn't been. It's been cooler and raining more, in Florida where my brother lives, than here. I believe everyone's gardens and pretty flowers have just about dried up, I know mine have.
And what's with those rain clouds and storms that are moving to the north and northeast? (Must be the Mars thing.) We really need the rain, but not those 100 mph winds or hail that seems to come with them. I was tempted to drive west of Marion Saturday just to drive in the rain — maybe get out and dance in it a little. But, it was too hot!
There's not much going on in the way of camping or fishing this week. With school starting, things always slow down. The camping group that was supposed to come this weekend canceled out because of the heat.
We did have a few hardy Bass fishermen. But, they came early like 6 a.m. and left before 10 a.m. Channel cat still are biting mostly on chicken liver, shad gizzards, and the new garlic BJ.
Dale has been working late at night killing spiders in the heated dock. He sat off some bombs one night and that got rid of most of them except for the ones outside. Those he has to sweep down with a broom and step on them. So, if you have been afraid to fish down there because of the spiders, most of them are gone, at least until a new hatch. Then he'll bomb them again.
Chat and Dine Club picked up trash along Airport Road and other entrances to the lake a couple of weeks ago and I was told an interesting fact. They said, "I'll bet you can't name the most common can we picked up?" Well, like you, I said, "Beer?" Nope, guess again. Come on, guess again!
Now, if this was on the computer, I would scroll down a ways until you could see the answer and keep you guessing.
They told me it was Slimfast! I never would have guessed that one. Someone must be drinking it on the way to work in the morning and again on the way home, I hope it works for them. We'll look for the skinny one.
We passed two landmarks last week, our 43rd wedding anniversary on the 20th and of coming here to the lake 40 years ago on Aug 24.
The weather man almost has promised cooler weather for Labor Day, so be sure you take in the festival at Florence. They have three days of fun planned. And don't forget to come to the lake to see the fireworks and you can still see Mars, too!!
