First graders interact with grandparents

First grade classrooms at Marion Elementary School were buzzing with activity Thursday morning as students entertained grandparents or their surrogates in celebration of Grandparents' Day.

In Lynette Jost's room, the guests and children enjoyed a breakfast of donuts and juice.

After all joined in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Jost read a book about "What Grandparents Like to Do Best."

Then the students presented a Readers' Theater about "A Day in the Pumpkin Patch."

Students paired up with their guests and read books they had prepared about their families. Other interactions included stitching a quilt square and playing games. Adults were asked to fill out a question-and-answer booklet about themselves.

Students in Michelle Adkin's first grade class also had special guests and activities.
