Fisherman dies at Marion Reservoir

Charles Ware, 64, of Roxbury, died Sept. 4, at Marion Reservoir.

According to Marion County Sheriff Lee Becker, Ware was fishing the evening of Sept. 4 with friend Tom Schrag of Hillsboro. The two were standing in knee-deep water near Suderman's Cove, 240th Road about 1/2 mile east of Kanza, when Ware said he didn't feel well. When Schrag turned back around, he did not see Ware and headed back to shore where he found Ware face down in the water which was about two feet deep.

Schrag dragged Ware to the shore and called 911 at approximately 7:50 p.m.. The dispatcher instructed Schrag in performing CPR which continued after Hillsboro EMS arrived. Life Team was dispatched and arrived at the scene where Ware was pronounced dead.

Becker reported an autopsy was performed and his office was waiting for the final report that could determine the cause of death.
