Florence chamber welcomes new businesses
Three new businesses in Florence were recognized with framed $2 bills at the Jan. 8 meeting of the Florence Chamber of Commerce. The framed bills represent the first two dollars of clear profit for the businesses.
Jeff Gore and Bryan Harper who will open the Junction Saloon in downtown Florence soon, Dan Fletcher, owner of Hawkeye Tires, and Lonnie Augustine who operates From the Heart, a gift and craft store, were presented with the certificates.
Ed Robinson suggested the chamber throw its support behind the city swimming pool and sponsor some fund-raising activities to help keep it open. He told the chamber members that last summer pool expenses outweighed pool income by almost $10,000.
Discussion among members generated several good ideas for raising money. A water carnival, adult water aerobics nights, a hog roast, and other suggestions were discussed. Members will bring additional suggestions to the next meeting.
In other business, members:
— heard a report of a successful Breakfast with Santa.
— heard that the PRIDE Committee newsletter is available by subscription or by single issue at several businesses.
— accepted an offer from Ron and Kathleen Ludwing for the old lighted Nativity set that was used by the Christian church for years.
