Florus Talkington
Former Burns resident Florus Talkington, 72, died Aug. 8, 2003, at his home in Oneida.
Born March 13, 1931, at Clements, he was the son of Florus and Jessie (Harlan) Talkington.
Florus spent part of his early years at Cottonwood Falls, then moved to El Dorado where he finished school.
On June 8, 1953, he married Rose Faunce.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He was an oil field worker whose hobby was raising milk cows and farming.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dora Talkington.
Survivors include his wife, Rose, of the home; three sons, Jessie of Burns, Virgil of Morrill, and Doug of Centralia; four daughters, Rose Ann Scott of Burns, Evelyn Barrett and Patricia Bentley of Oneida, and Carrie Talkington of Topeka; two brothers, Bud Talkington of Hamilton and Gary Talkington of El Dorado; five sisters, Edna Dwyer of Warsaw, Mo., Ethel Shever of Wichita, Margaret Hollman of El Dorado, and Dora Faunce and Flora Casper, both of Rosalia; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Burns Cemetery with Pastor Jim Pohlman officiating.
A memorial fund has been established with the American Cancer Society.
