Former Marion County soldier injured in Iraq
John and Betty Snelling of rural Florence received word their son, Sgt. William R. Snelling, sustained a broken collar bone and several ribs from a truck wreck in Iraq.
The accident occurred during a storm when the truck Snelling was riding in rear-ended another truck in a convoy. Snelling's truck skidded into another truck and rolled several times before falling from a bridge.
Another soldier in the truck received emergency treatment for a broken femur then was flown to Germany.
Snelling is in Kuwait receiving rehabilitation.
They were part of a group running supplies north of Baghdad.
Snelling has been in the Nebraska National Guard for 12 years and is a graduate of Marion High School.
