Four candidates file for Marion mayor position
By noon Tuesday four residents had filed for the highest elected position in the city.
Incumbent Martin Tice, Nick Nickelson, Mary Olson, and David Colburn have tossed their hats in the ring.
Since there are more than two competing for the office, there will be a primary election Feb. 27. The top two vote-getters then will move on to the general election on April 3.
A primary election is required if there is more than twice as many candidates as there are positions.
Candidates for USD 408 are: position one: Christopher Sprowls (I); position two: Kathy Meierhoff (I); position three: Ronald Kirkpatrick Jr.; position seven (at-large): Sarah Cope (I).
In other city positions, the following candidates have filed:
— Hillsboro — mayor: incumbent Delores Dalke; ward one/west: Robert Watson. Len Coryea did not seek another term. Ward two/east: Matt Hiebert (I) and Shane Marler.
— Peabody — councilman Edmund Slocombe has filed for mayor. Council: Steven Rose (I), Mitch Cunningham, and Larry Larsen. There are three open positions.
— Florence — mayor: Greg Winn; ward one: Dan Ludwig (I), Venetia L. Miller, Joe Cleverly and Dorothy Cleverly; ward two: Gary Nesser and Trayce Warner have filed for council positions in ward two which is held by Ed Robinson.
— Goessel — council: Anton H. Epp, Ricky Freeman (I), James Wiens (I), and Dwayne Duerksen (I). There are three open positions.
— Lincolnville — council: Sherry Pankratz (I) and Dawn Kaiser (I). There are three open positions.
— Tampa — mayor James Clemmer (I); council: Timothy J. Svoboda (I) and Willis Herbel (I). There are three open positions.
— Burns — council Daniel S. Huls II, Patricia Nystrom, Judith A. Steward, Brent D. Baker, and Susan A. Savage. There are three open positions.
— Durham — mayor Glennon Crowther (I); council Verlin Summerfeld, Gary Unruh (I), Steven B. Miller, and Michael Sorensen. There are five open council positions.
— Ramona — mayor: none; council: Nathan Bailey, Edith Smith, Angel Harold (I), Jeanette Goza, Jayme Brunner (I), Arthur Stroda (I), and Kathy Werth (I). There are five open council positions.
— Lehigh — no candidates filed for mayor or five council positions.
— Lost Springs — no candidates filed for mayor or five council positions.
School board candidates:
— USD 397 — position one: Jesse Brunner (currently in position seven); position two: Terry Deines and Mark Heiser; position three: none; position seven (at-large): Kevin Hill and Steven G. Jirak.
— USD 398 — position one: Bruce Burke, Peggy Phillips (I), Roger Elliott, and Barry Peter; position two: Brian McDowell; position three: Gary Jones who currently serves in position two; and position seven (at-large): Anthony Zappone, Jeffrey P. Pohlman, and Gilbert Loewen (I).
— USD 410 — position one: Debra Geis (I); position two: Dale W. Klassen (I); position three: Mark Rooker (I); position seven: Roderick Koons (I).
— USD 411: position one: Darla Meysing (previously had filed for position seven but withdrew); position two: Maynard Knepp (I); position three: Dan Miller (I); position seven (at-large): Mary Rosfelz (I).
Cottonwood Valley Drainage District: Willard Hett (I), Darvin Markley (I), and John (Rocky) R. Hett (I). Three open positions.
