Fourth generation farms Abeldt land

To the Editor:

Ed Costello, at the 50-year reception for him and Phyllis Mueller, brought to my attention the marriage license of my grandfather and grandmother in April 1904.

It should have read Lena Neimier and Henry Abeldt instead of A. Beldt. They drove to Marion in a buggy, got married, and came home to plant corn.

We are still on the same farm celebrating our 100 years. Great-grandfather, Jochim Neimier actually bought the quarter section in 1891.

My parents, Lowell and Jean Abeldt, farmed here from 1940 to 1963, when dad was severely injured in a horse accident.

Part of the original house built in 1889 by a great uncle is still part of our home today. Nadine and I have three older sons farming, now the fourth generation, and a 12-year-old son.

Thanks for adding it to your 100-year column and thanks Ed for noticing it.
