Frances Mardis
Frances Antoinette (Williams) Mardis, 84, died Sept. 18, 2002, at Topeka.
The daughter of the late Paul and Nettie (Taylor) Williams, she was born Sept. 5, 1918, at Marion.
She grew up and attended school in the Marion community and graduated from Southwestern College, Winfield.
She was a social worker for Social Rehabilitation Services for the State of Kansas for 35 years. She retired in 1984. In 1959 she moved from Winfield to Topeka.
She was a member of University United Methodist Church, Topeka, and the Order of Eastern Star, Winfield.
She married James Robert Mardis Oct. 22, 1969, at Council Grove. He died Dec. 27, 1990.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte J. Long of Topeka and Helen A. Figueroa of Chapel Hill, N.C.; one brother, Paul E. Williams Jr. of Peabody; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday at University UM Church with graveside services at 4 p.m. at Marion Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in her name at the church.
